BYD Pakistan reaches 10,000 vehicles ahead of local assembly

Mega Motor Company, BYD’s official partner in Pakistan, said on Thursday that BYD had reached 10,000 vehicles on Pakistani roads, a milestone it attributed to strong demand and growing confidence in new energy vehicles as the partners prepare to begin local assembly.

How many BYD vehicles are now on Pakistani roads?

MMC said the 10,000-vehicle milestone reflects the pace of BYD’s expansion since entering Pakistan and growing consumer confidence in new energy vehicles. The company now offers five models across electric and plug-in hybrid segments, giving BYD a broader presence ahead of planned local assembly.

MMC described the milestone as the fastest ramp-up by a new-entrant NEV brand in Pakistan’s automotive history.

BYD entered Pakistan with the Atto 3 and Seal, according to MMC, and has since expanded its portfolio to five models. The lineup now includes the Atto 2, Atto 3, Seal, Sealion 7 and Shark 6.

MMC described the Atto 2 as Pakistan’s top-selling electric vehicle and the Shark 6 as the country’s first plug-in hybrid pickup.

“The significance of 10,000 vehicles goes well beyond the number itself. It reflects the progress MMC has made in building the foundations for new energy mobility in Pakistan,” MMC Chief Executive Aly Khan said.

Khan said the company had focused on developing the capabilities, infrastructure and market presence needed to support new energy mobility at scale.

He said MMC was preparing to launch what he described as Pakistan’s first and largest NEV assembly facility as the company moves towards local production.

What is next for BYD Pakistan?

MMC said its upcoming assembly facility would be dedicated exclusively to new energy vehicles and represent the next stage of BYD’s development in Pakistan.

The company said the facility would move its Pakistan operations from the adoption of imported NEVs towards local production.

BYD Vice President Liu Xueliang said growing consumer adoption had increased the importance of Pakistan within the company’s international operations.

“Pakistan has quickly become an important market in BYD’s global journey, and the trust consumers have shown in our brand is particularly significant to us,” Liu said.

He said BYD would continue working with MMC to offer products suited to Pakistani consumers as their needs evolve, while expanding the brand’s presence in the market.

MMC said the 10,000-vehicle milestone and planned local assembly represent the next phase of the partners’ strategy to develop the new energy vehicle market in Pakistan.
