A Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) officer was killed and two others injured in an exchange of fire with militants in Garhi Sherdad on Warsak Road in Peshawar, officials said.
A suspected suicide bomber was also killed. The CTD team had moved into the area following reports of militant presence.
Officials said militants opened fire when they saw the security team, triggering a gunbattle.
The exchange left one CTD officer dead and two others wounded, while the suspected suicide bomber was killed during the operation. Police later deployed additional personnel to the area.
The casualties were taken to Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar for medico-legal procedures. Muhammad Asim, a spokesperson for the hospital, confirmed that the injured officers were receiving treatment and were in stable condition.
Security agencies continued to monitor the situation, officials said.
Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, has long faced security challenges because of its proximity to districts affected by militant activity. The district borders Khyber, Mohmand, Charsadda, Nowshera and Kohat, areas where security forces have conducted counterterrorism operations.
