A Karachi court sent alleged drug queenpin Anmol alias Pinky to jail on judicial remand across 15-plus cases including narcotics, weapons and murder charges.
A Karachi court on Friday sent alleged narcotics trafficker Anmol, widely known as Pinky, to jail on a 14-day judicial remand after her physical remand expired.
The order covers multiple drug-related cases and a murder charge filed against her across several Karachi police stations. Authorities say she now faces more than a dozen active criminal cases in total.
What charges does Anmol alias Pinky face in Karachi?
Anmol faces at least 15 active cases involving narcotics possession, an unlicensed weapon and a murder charge.
She was arrested earlier this month in Karachi, though several cases had already been registered against her before that arrest. Courts on Friday ordered her shifted to jail while directing investigating officers to submit charge sheets upon completion of their inquiries.
What happened at Friday's court proceedings?
Anmol was produced before judicial magistrates at the Judicial Complex inside Central Jail under tight security. The proceedings covered narcotics cases filed at the Baghdadi, Gizri, Darakhshan and Specialized Investigation Unit police stations, a murder case, and around 10 previously registered drug cases. Prosecutors requested an extension of physical remand across all matters.
The courts rejected each request. Instead of extending physical remand for further interrogation, the magistrates ordered that Anmol be shifted to jail on judicial remand. Investigating officers were directed to complete their inquiries and file finalized charge sheets before the next hearings.
What is a judicial remand in Pakistan?
A judicial remand transfers custody of a suspect from police to the court, meaning the accused is held in jail rather than in police detention.
It is typically ordered once the physical remand period granted to police for investigation has expired. The court retains oversight of the case while investigators complete their work and prepare charge sheets.
