The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has introduced a rapid intervention vehicle designed to enhance emergency response during heavy rainfall and flooding, improving traffic management and reducing disruption across the city, Khaleej Times reported.
Unveiled on Sunday, April 26, the vehicle is part of Dubai’s efforts to strengthen infrastructure resilience and improve readiness for extreme weather events, according to the RTA.
The system is equipped with four high-capacity pumps capable of handling around 60,000 liters of water per minute, significantly exceeding the output of conventional pumping and suction equipment. It can operate in water depths of up to 1.8 meters and enables faster deployment compared with traditional mobile units.

The RTA said the integrated system includes hydraulic pump controls, multiple engines, suction hoses, a hose reel trailer, a rescue boat for evacuations, a thermal drone for field assessment, a backup generator, and a lighting tower to support operations in low-visibility conditions.
According to the authority, the vehicle reduces response times to water-related emergencies by more than 75%, helping safeguard lives and property while maintaining traffic flow during severe weather conditions.
Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who also serves as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, reviewed the initiative along with other RTA projects aimed at improving emergency preparedness and urban resilience.
RTA Director General Mattar Al Tayer said the development reflects ongoing efforts to adopt advanced technologies and strengthen Dubai’s ability to respond to future environmental and operational challenges.
