Dubai Municipality launches ‘Ehsan Stations’ to feed stray animals

Dubai Municipality has introduced ‘Ehsan Stations’, a pioneering initiative in the region using AI-powered smart devices to feed stray animals across the emirate, WAM reported.

The program underscores Dubai Municipality’s commitment to animal welfare, environmental sustainability, and compassionate urban living, while promoting responsible feeding practices.

As part of the project, 12 smart stations will be installed at key locations, including 10 in public parks and 2 within Dubai Holding facilities. The AI-based system identifies stray animals, collects data, and dispenses food in a structured and sustainable way, reducing random feeding that can impact public spaces.

Dr. Naseem Mohammed Rafee, Acting CEO of the Environment, Health and Safety Agency at Dubai Municipality, said the initiative combines technology with humane animal management. “Ehsan Stations reflect Dubai’s commitment to compassion and ecological balance, while improving stray animal management and addressing environmental and health challenges caused by unregulated feeding,” she added.

The current phase is a pilot stage, allowing the municipality to test and refine the stations. All units are designed and manufactured in the UAE using advanced technology.

Dubai Municipality also operates a scientific and humane approach to stray animals, including temporary shelters, and the Trap–Neuter–Return (TNR) and Trap–Neuter–Vaccinate–Return (TNVR) programs. Animals that are safe for adoption are listed on the municipality’s website.

Residents are encouraged to follow best practices in pet care, treat animals humanely, and report any risks or concerns regarding stray animals via 800900.

This initiative builds on Dubai Municipality’s broader animal welfare efforts, such as the ‘Fountains of Mercy’ project, which provides 50 fountains for birds and wildlife across urban and desert areas, combining sustainability with ease of maintenance.
