At least 11 militants were killed by Pakistani security forces in two separate intelligence-based operations (IBOs) in the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the military’s media wing said on Saturday.
The militants belonged to “the Indian-sponsored proxy group Fitna Al Khwarij”, the statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.
According to the ISPR, an IBO was carried out on Jan. 8 in North Waziristan District following reports about the presence of militants in the area. “During the operation, security forces effectively engaged the militant hideout, and after an intense exchange of fire, six militants were killed.”
In a separate incident, a joint operation was conducted by police and security forces in Kurram District. “Five militants were neutralized during the ensuing firefight,” the statement said.
Weapons and ammunition were also said to have been recovered from the slain militants, who, according to ISPR, were actively involved in multiple terrorist activities against security forces and law enforcement agencies, as well as targeted killings of civilians.
The ISPR said the military was engaged in operations to clear the area to eliminate any remaining militants.
It reaffirmed that the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign under the vision of “Azm-e-Istehkam”, approved by the Federal Apex Committee under the National Action Plan, will continue with full resolve to eradicate foreign-sponsored terrorism from the country.
