Pakistan said on Monday they killed five militants, including a suicide bomber, in an intelligence-based operation in Pishin District of Balochistan, in what Islamabad described as a strike against India-backed proxy groups.
The military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), said the operation was launched on February 22 following intelligence reports of militants operating in the area.
Security forces engaged the entire group, resulting in the suicide bomber detonating explosives and the remaining four militants being killed in the ensuing firefight.
Weapons, ammunition, and explosives were recovered from the militants, who the military said had been involved in multiple terrorist attacks in the region. A follow-up sanitization operation is underway to ensure no other militants remain in the vicinity.
The ISPR emphasized that the operation is part of Pakistan’s ongoing counter-terrorism campaign under the “Azm-e-Istehkam” initiative, approved by the Federal Apex Committee as part of the National Action Plan.
Security forces and law enforcement agencies, it added, remain committed to eliminating foreign-sponsored terrorism from the country.
