Israeli military strikes killed at least four Palestinians across the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, October 14, local health authorities and emergency rescue teams reported, coming days after the one-year mark of a US-mediated ceasefire agreement.

Where did the latest strikes hit and who were the casualties?

According to Palestinian Civil Defence spokesman Mahmoud Bassal and officials at Nasser Hospital, an Israeli strike struck a civilian vehicle near Khan Yunis in southern Gaza, killing two young men. Hours later, an Israeli airstrike hit an apartment building in northern Gaza City, killing two additional people—including a woman—and wounding several others, according to emergency teams at Al-Shifa Hospital.

While the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) did not comment immediately on the specific targets hit on Wednesday, military spokespersons earlier announced the conclusion of a four-month sector sweep in northern Gaza, claiming forces had neutralized more than 100 militants and demolished roughly eight kilometers (five miles) of subterranean tunnel infrastructure.

How does the military campaign align with regional ceasefire terms and domestic politics?

The strikes follow the anniversary of the US-brokered ceasefire that took effect on October 10, 2025, which saw Hamas release its remaining living hostages.

Despite the diplomatic arrangement, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu—who is navigating a competitive domestic reelection campaign scheduled for later this month—has maintained a policy of preemptive strikes against militant activity, insisting that operations against residual Hamas infrastructure will proceed without pause.

More than 74,300 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s military offensive across Gaza, according to figures from Gaza’s Health Ministry, which the United Nations continues to cite as broadly reliable.

According to Al Jazeera, international mediators and regional diplomats have raised alarm over recurring violations testing the durability of the year-old truce.
