A high-level Pakistani parliamentary delegation, led by former Foreign Minister and Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, arrived in London after concluding visits to Washington and New York.
The nine-member team is tasked with promoting Pakistan’s stance on the recent escalation with India and advocating for a resolution to the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.
The delegation was appointed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to present Pakistan’s position internationally. According to officials, the delegation aims to highlight Pakistan’s call for peace and its "responsible and restrained" response to what it calls India’s "reckless and belligerent actions in violation of international law."
The members include:
- Dr. Musadik Masood Malik, Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination.
- Senator Sherry Rehman, Chair of the Senate Standing Committee on Climate Change and former Information Minister.
- Hina Rabbani Khar, Chair of the National Assembly’s Foreign Affairs Committee and former Foreign Minister.
- Engineer Khurram Dastgir Khan, former Minister for Commerce, Defense, and Foreign Affairs;
- Senator Syed Faisal Ali Subzwari of MQM-P, former Maritime Affairs Minister.
- Senator Bushra Anjum Butt.
- Ambassador Jalil Abbas Jilani, former Foreign Secretary and Caretaker Foreign Minister.
- Ambassador Tehmina Janjua, also a former Foreign Secretary.
In London, the delegation will meet with UK parliamentarians, including members of the All-Party Parliamentary Groups on Pakistan and Jammu and Kashmir. Meetings are also scheduled with senior officials at the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).
The delegation plans to engage extensively with international media and think tanks. A key message of the visit, officials said, is the urgency of resolving the Kashmir issue in line with United Nations Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
Delegation members will also emphasize the need to resume full implementation of the Indus Waters Treaty. The treaty, a long-standing water-sharing agreement between Pakistan and India, was unilaterally suspended by India in the wake of the deadly Pahalgam attack in Indian-administered Kashmir.
"The goal is to underscore that dialogue and diplomacy must take precedence over conflict and confrontation," the delegation stated.
