Pakistan and 11 other Muslim-majority countries condemned Israeli airstrikes on a Syrian military base this week, calling the attacks a violation of Syria's sovereignty.

The foreign ministers warned that continued strikes could further destabilize the region and undermine Syria's recovery from years of conflict.

Which countries joined Pakistan in condemning the Israeli strikes?

The joint statement was issued by the foreign ministers of Türkiye, Algeria, Indonesia, Jordan, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mauritania, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Somalia.

It followed Israeli strikes on the Abu al-Duhur airbase in northwestern Syria. Together, the 12 countries described the attacks as a serious escalation threatening regional stability.

Why do the ministers say the strikes threaten Syria's recovery?

The ministers said Israel's continued targeting of Syrian territory and infrastructure threatens efforts to restore security, rebuild state institutions and address the humanitarian fallout from years of conflict. They warned that continued violations of Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity could deepen regional tensions and undermine prospects for peace. The statement added that such actions weaken respect for international law and the principles of the UN Charter.

What action are the ministers demanding from the international community?

The foreign ministers called on the international community to adopt a firm and principled position against Israeli actions in Syria. They urged countries to take concrete measures under international law and the UN Charter to halt the violations. Specifically, they called for full implementation of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from areas they have occupied.

The ministers said these steps were necessary to prevent further escalation and safeguard regional peace and stability. They reaffirmed their support for Syria's sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and political unity, and rejected any attempts to undermine them.
