Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif spoke with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in a telephone call on Saturday to discuss escalating regional tensions and ongoing efforts to promote peace.

The hour-long conversation focused on recent developments in the Middle East and the need for coordinated diplomatic initiatives to restore stability.

During the call, Prime Minister Shehbaz strongly condemned ongoing Israeli strikes targeting civilian infrastructure in Iran and expressed Pakistan’s full solidarity with the Iranian people. He also conveyed condolences for the more than 1,900 lives lost, offering prayers for the deceased and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.

PM Shehbaz briefed President Pezeshkian on Pakistan’s diplomatic outreach, conducted alongside Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, to the United States, Gulf countries, and other Islamic nations. The initiatives are aimed at creating conditions conducive to dialogue and de-escalation.

The premier reiterated Pakistan’s support for peaceful measures and expressed hope that regional actors could collectively work toward reducing tensions.

President Pezeshkian welcomed Pakistan’s efforts, sharing Iran’s perspective on the recent Israeli strikes. He highlighted the importance of confidence-building measures to facilitate dialogue and acknowledged Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting mediation.

Shehbaz thanked the Iranian president and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to advancing peace and stability in the region.
