Pakistan has reportedly requested a $10 billion Exchange Stabilization Support Facility from the United States in what could become one of the most significant developments in US Pakistan economic relations in years.
The proposal comes after improving diplomatic ties, Pakistan's role during the US Iran conflict, and increasing strategic engagement between Washington and Islamabad. President Donald Trump has publicly praised Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, while Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb discussed the proposal with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent during meetings in Washington.
Unlike an IMF bailout or a traditional development loan, the proposed facility is designed to strengthen Pakistan's foreign exchange reserves, ease pressure on the Pakistani rupee, and improve investor confidence in the country's external financial position.
