Pakistan issues second LNG tender in a week, seeking one spot cargo for July delivery through Port Qasim.
Pakistan has issued its second tender in a week to purchase a spot liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo, seeking bids from international suppliers for delivery on July 10-11, according to a tender document published on the website of Pakistan LNG Ltd. (PLL).
State-owned Pakistan LNG Ltd. has invited bids from global LNG suppliers, with offers due on July 3. The bids will be opened the same day, according to the tender document.
The tender seeks one spot LNG cargo for delivery on July 10-11 as Pakistan continues to procure fuel from the international market to meet domestic gas demand.
Pakistan plans to import one LNG cargo of 140,000 cubic meters on a delivered ex-ship (DES) basis at Karachi's Port Qasim, according to the document.
The latest tender comes less than a week after Pakistan secured another spot LNG cargo for delivery during the June 30-July 4 window, according to market sources.
That cargo was purchased at USD 16.73 per million British thermal units (MMBtu), according to a document published on the state company's website.
Pakistan has increasingly relied on spot market purchases to supplement long-term LNG supplies, with procurement timing influenced by domestic demand and prevailing international LNG prices.
The country's LNG imports during the first 10 months of the fiscal year ending May 31 totaled USD 2.016 billion, down from USD 3.211 billion in the same period a year earlier, according to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics on June 16.
Pakistan typically imports about nine to 10 LNG cargoes each month from Qatar under long-term supply contracts. However, the conflict in the Middle East has disrupted contractual supplies from the region.
