Pakistan supports Yemen unity, discusses Middle East tensions with regional leaders

Pakistan on Saturday reiterated its support for Yemen’s unity and territorial integrity, welcoming a call by Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council for comprehensive talks in Riyadh and urging all Yemeni stakeholders to engage in good faith toward a negotiated political settlement.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pakistan said it hoped regional efforts would contribute to lasting peace and stability in Yemen, guided by the principles of unity and brotherhood.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, who arrived in Beijing earlier in the day, held a series of high-level consultations with regional counterparts to discuss the evolving situation in the Middle East.

Upon landing in Beijing, Dar spoke by telephone with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan. The two leaders discussed recent regional developments, with the Pakistani foreign minister welcoming the Saudi Foreign Ministry’s statement on Yemen and appreciating efforts by all sides to resolve regional issues amicably.

Later, Dar held a telephone conversation with UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Both leaders exchanged views on the regional situation and expressed satisfaction over the improving conditions and positive trajectory in the region. Dar noted that dialogue and diplomacy had yielded tangible results on the ground.

In another call from Beijing, the Pakistani foreign minister spoke with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. The two discussed the evolving regional environment and welcomed efforts being made by all parties to address challenges through dialogue and diplomacy. Dar also conveyed Pakistan’s desire to strengthen bilateral cooperation with Turkey in areas including trade, technology, tourism, and information technology.
