Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday ordered financial assistance for families affected by recent rains and floods, including those who lost relatives and owners of damaged homes.

State-run wire service reported the directive came during a meeting on the monsoon's impact. Sharif also called for faster restoration of power and roads in affected areas.

What did PM Shehbaz order for flood-affected families?

Chairing a meeting on the monsoon rains' impact, Sharif directed authorities to provide compensation to families of those killed and financial support to owners of homes that were fully or partially damaged. He also called for rapid restoration of electricity transmission networks and roads.

Federal ministers and senior officials were instructed to visit flood-hit areas and begin rehabilitation without delay.

What relief efforts are underway in flood-hit areas?

Sharif separately ordered authorities to speed up relief operations and ensure food and other essential supplies reach communities cut off by damaged or blocked routes. With further rain and flooding expected, he directed the National Disaster Management Authority and provincial disaster management agencies to maintain full preparedness for additional relief and rescue operations.

Officials briefed the meeting on the impact of the 2026 monsoon season and ongoing relief efforts by provincial authorities and the NDMA. They said flood-affected people had been moved to safer locations, with response teams remaining ready to assist if flooding continues.

How much relief has been dispatched so far?

A total of 615 tons of relief supplies had been dispatched to monsoon-affected areas, the meeting was told, with additional supplies being arranged.

Restoration and rehabilitation work was also under way across Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Early warning systems in northern areas had already helped authorities evacuate several people to safety before flooding hit.
