Pakistan and China reaffirmed their longstanding "All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership" during a meeting between Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong at the Prime Minister's House in Islamabad on Monday. Both sides pledged to deepen bilateral cooperation and discussed regional developments, including the Middle East, Afghanistan and South Asia.
What did PM Shehbaz and Ambassador Jiang discuss?
Prime Minister Shehbaz conveyed his greetings to Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang, while recalling his official visit to China in May this year. He said both countries would continue working closely to implement the key decisions and agreements reached by their leadership for the mutual benefit of their peoples.
The two sides also exchanged views on the regional situation, covering the latest developments in the Middle East, Afghanistan and South Asia. Ambassador Jiang thanked the prime minister for receiving him and reiterated that China considers Pakistan an "iron brother."
Who attended the meeting between Shehbaz and Jiang Zaidong?
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal, Adviser to the Prime Minister Dr Syed Tauqir Shah, and Foreign Secretary Ambassador Amna Baloch, according to a statement issued by the PM Office.
Ambassador Jiang reaffirmed Beijing's continued support for Pakistan's sovereignty, territorial integrity and socio-economic development. He expressed China's commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries under the strategic partnership.
