Six Pakistani soldiers, 22 militants killed in clashes near Afghan border
Firefights erupted in three districts during intelligence-based operations in Waziristan and surrounding areas, the military said
Six soldiers and 22 militants were killed in clashes near Pakistan’s border with Afghanistan, the military said on Saturday, as attacks by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) escalate in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
According to the statement from the military's media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the clashes occurred on Friday and Saturday.
The firefights took place in three districts after soldiers conducted intelligence-based operations in Waziristan and its adjoining regions, the statement added.
The TTP said its fighters killed the soldiers by storming a security checkpoint but did not disclose how many militants died in the clashes.
Pakistan has witnessed a sharp rise in attacks on security forces, law enforcement agencies, and checkpoints in recent months, with the TTP intensifying its campaign primarily in the provinces of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
These attacks have escalated since the militant group broke a fragile ceasefire with the government in 2022 and pledged to target security forces.
