The United Arab Emirates has launched the first phase of its Blue Visa, a 10-year residency permit aimed at individuals who have made exceptional contributions to environmental protection and sustainability, Khaleej Times reported.
The announcement was made at the World Government Summit 2025 on Tuesday.
In its initial phase, the Blue Visa will be granted to 20 sustainability thought leaders and innovators, according to the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment and the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP).
Designed to recognize and support champions of environmental action, the Blue Visa targets members of international organizations, executives from global companies, members of non-governmental organizations, global award winners, and distinguished activists and researchers dedicated to environmental work.
The Blue Visa is an extension of the UAE's Golden and Green Residency programs, which were launched earlier to attract exceptional talent and investment to the country.
Application process
The first phase of the application system allows electronic approval through submissions made by relevant government agencies within sustainability sectors. Applications can be processed through the ICP's official website.
Individuals interested in the Blue Visa can apply directly via the ICP platform or be nominated by competent authorities in the UAE. The ICP will provide 24/7 access to the Blue Visa application service through its website and mobile app, subject to approved terms and conditions.
The launch of the Blue Visa underscores the UAE's commitment to environmental sustainability and its ambition to become a global hub for green innovation.
