The foreign ministers of the United Arab Emirates and Iran held a telephone conversation on Sunday to discuss regional developments, bilateral ties and the situation in Yemen, according to state-run news agencies in both countries.
UAE news agency WAM said Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE’s deputy prime minister and minister of foreign affairs, received the call from Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
The two diplomats reviewed the overall situation in the region and discussed the latest regional developments, as well as relations between Abu Dhabi and Tehran, WAM reported.
Iran’s WANA news agency said the call was part of ongoing diplomatic consultations focused on Yemen and broader regional issues.
According to WANA, both ministers expressed satisfaction with the improvement in bilateral relations and stressed the importance of continuing dialogue and following up on matters of mutual interest.
During the call, Araghchi referred to recent developments in southern Yemen and urged coordinated efforts by regional countries to preserve Yemen’s unity and territorial integrity.
Sheikh Abdullah, for his part, emphasized the need to maintain peace and stability in Yemen and across the wider region, according to WANA.
He outlined measures taken by the UAE to support de-escalation and stability in Yemen.
At the conclusion of the conversation, both foreign ministers stressed what they described as the shared responsibility of regional countries to strengthen stability in Yemen and safeguard regional peace and security.
