A drone strike hit the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the United Arab Emirates on Sunday, causing a fire, while Saudi Arabia intercepted three drones from Iraqi airspace.
The incidents occurred as U.S. President Donald Trump warned Iran to act "fast," with diplomatic efforts to end the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran appearing to have stalled, Reuters reported.
What happened in the UAE drone attack on the Barakah nuclear plant?
A drone breached UAE air defenses and struck an electrical generator outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant.
Two other drones were intercepted and destroyed. Radiological safety levels were unaffected, no radioactive material was released, and there were no injuries. Emergency diesel generators were brought in to power unit 3 of the plant.
Where did the drones come from?
The UAE defense ministry said the drones were launched from the "western border" but did not elaborate further. Saudi Arabia said its three intercepted drones entered from Iraqi airspace.

Both countries issued strong warnings in response. While hostilities in the Iran conflict have largely scaled down since a ceasefire took effect in April, drones have continued to be launched from Iraq toward Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
The UAE said it was investigating the source of the strike and asserted its full right to respond to what it called "terrorist attacks." A diplomatic adviser to the UAE president described the incident as a dangerous escalation, whether carried out by "the principal perpetrator" or one of its proxies.
The UAE's Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation confirmed the plant remained safe. The International Atomic Energy Agency called for "maximum military restraint" near any nuclear facility and said it was following the situation closely.
How has Iran targeted Gulf states during the war?
Since the war began with U.S. and Israeli strikes against Iran on February 28, Iran has repeatedly targeted the UAE and other Gulf states hosting U.S. military bases. Attacks have hit civilian and energy infrastructure. Iran escalated strikes on the UAE earlier this month after Trump announced a naval mission to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a mission he suspended after 48 hours.
Saudi Arabia warned it would take all necessary operational measures to protect its sovereignty and security following the drone interceptions.
Why has the Iran war ceasefire stalled?
More than five weeks after a tenuous ceasefire took effect, U.S. and Iranian demands remain far apart. Washington has called for Tehran to dismantle its nuclear program and lift its hold on the Strait of Hormuz, the world's most important shipping route for oil and gas. Iran has demanded compensation for war damage, an end to a U.S. blockade of its ports, and a halt to fighting on all fronts, including in Lebanon.
Trump, whose pressure tactics have failed to break the stalemate, posted on Truth Social: "For Iran, the Clock is Ticking, and they better get moving, FAST, or there won't be anything left of them." He is expected to meet top national security advisers on Tuesday to discuss military options regarding Iran.
Trump also held talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping this week without securing a commitment from Beijing to help resolve the conflict. A senior spokesperson for the Iranian armed forces said that if Trump's threats were carried out, the U.S. would "face new, aggressive, and surprise scenarios, and sink into a self-made quagmire."
Iran's foreign ministry accused the U.S. and Israel of trying to shift blame for destabilizing energy markets following what it called their "unprovoked military aggression against Iran."
What is the impact of the Strait of Hormuz blockade?
The disruption to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz has triggered the largest oil supply crisis in history, pushing up prices globally. The U.S. has imposed its own blockade of Iranian ports and said it had redirected 81 commercial vessels and disabled four vessels to enforce compliance as of Sunday.
Iran's parliament national security committee chair said Tehran had prepared a mechanism to manage strait traffic along a designated route, with details to be announced soon.
Thousands of Iranians were killed in U.S. and Israeli airstrikes. Thousands more have died in Lebanon in fighting between Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah. Israel and Lebanon agreed on Friday to a 45-day extension of a ceasefire, though clashes have continued despite the truce.
