In a momentous ceremony attended by Zaki Nusseibeh, Cultural Adviser to the UAE President and Chancellor of the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), the university launched the Stem Cells Research Centre, the first of its kind in the UAE's academic landscape.

This state-of-the-art centre marks a bold stride in the country's quest to revolutionise healthcare and spearhead innovation in regenerative medicine. It aligns seamlessly with the UAE’s national ambition to cement its role as a global leader in advanced medical sciences.

With a focus on pioneering research into stem cells and their therapeutic applications, the centre is set to enhance both the scientific community's manufacturing capabilities and the UAE's position in the rapidly expanding stem cell market. Expected to surge from USD 711.8 million in 2024 to USD 1.3 billion by 2030, the market’s growth is fuelled by substantial government investments and the escalating demand for cutting-edge medical treatments.

Prof. Fatma Al Jasmi, Acting Dean of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at UAEU, expressed the significance of the centre’s opening:

"The opening of the Stem Cell Research Centre is a significant achievement that reflects the university's vision to promote research innovation and build national capacities in medical sciences. Through this centre, we aim to prepare a new generation of Emirati scientists capable of offering advanced medical solutions and solidifying the UAE's position as a global leader in regenerative medicine."

The centre’s collaboration with both local and international partners, including the Abu Dhabi Stem Cells Centre, further bolsters its mission. Since 2019, this partnership has funded pioneering research projects, facilitated groundbreaking clinical trials, and promoted the exchange of knowledge among top-tier researchers and specialists.

A dynamic epicenter of discovery, the Stem Cells Research Centre at UAEU is poised to drive forward the UAE’s leadership in regenerative medicine and stem cell research, contributing to the nation’s knowledge-based economy and reinforcing its vision of providing world-class healthcare for all.
