Pakistani travelers heading to the United Kingdom, including tourists and business visitors, can now use a new eVisa system that replaces physical visa stickers with a digital confirmation sent by email.

The move means applicants will no longer need to return to visa application centers to collect their passports after approval, streamlining the process for thousands of travelers each year.

How the system works

Applicants must still submit their visa applications online and attend a visa application center to provide biometric data. Once approved, they will receive a digital record of their immigration status through a UK Visas and Immigration online account.

Because the visa is issued electronically, applicants can keep their passports after their biometric appointment rather than leaving them at the center for visa sticker processing.

eVisas are designed to offer a more secure way to manage immigration status and reduce the risk of lost or damaged documents. Travelers can generate a share code to prove their visa status at UK borders or when required by authorities.

There are no changes to visa processing times, eligibility criteria or conditions under the new system.

British High Commissioner Jane Marriott said the change simplifies the application process for Pakistanis traveling for tourism, family visits, or business meetings. She said the ability to retain passports and use a digital share code makes it easier for travelers to demonstrate their visa status.

Officials also urged applicants to apply directly through the official U.K. government website rather than using visa agents.

The eVisa system was introduced last year for students and work visa holders. Thousands of travelers worldwide have already used digital visas at UK airports. Existing sticker visas remain valid and are not affected by the change.
