Dar arrives in Washington for talks with Rubio on Pakistan-US ties and regional issues

Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar arrived in Washington on Friday for high-level meetings with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

The visit aims to strengthen Pakistan-US relations and address regional security and international issues of mutual concern. Dar was received by Pakistan's Ambassador to the United States, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, and senior embassy officials.

What will Ishaq Dar discuss with Marco Rubio in Washington?

Dar is scheduled to meet Rubio, who also serves as National Security Advisor, to discuss the current state of Pakistan-US relations alongside regional security and broader international developments.

Both sides are also expected to explore expanded cooperation in key areas and reaffirm support for regional peace and stability through diplomatic engagement, according to Pakistan's Foreign Office.

What did Dar do before arriving in Washington?

Dar travelled to Washington after a three-day visit to New York from May 26 to 28, where he participated in a high-level UN Security Council open debate convened under China's presidency.

During his time in New York, he also held meetings on the sidelines of the United Nations, including discussions with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on regional conflicts and UN reform. He is expected to return to Islamabad after completing his Washington schedule.
