The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) have dedicated Thursday, 16 April, as Pink Day to raise awareness about breast cancer, using the widespread reach and popularity of the tournament as part of their corporate social responsibility efforts.
The initiative coincides with a double-header, where Hyderabad Kingsmen face Rawalpindiz at 2:30pm PKT, followed by a clash between Karachi Kings and Islamabad United later in the day.
Breast cancer remains the most common cancer in Pakistan, accounting for 16.5 per cent of all cancer cases. Studies indicate that one in nine women in the country are at risk, marking the highest incidence rate in Asia. Health experts stress that early detection and collective awareness can significantly improve outcomes for patients.
As part of the campaign, the PCB and PSL have partnered with Pink Ribbon Hospital, Pakistan’s first breast cancer charity hospital. Free screening facilities for women have been arranged in Lahore from 13 to 18 April to encourage early diagnosis and timely treatment.
Pink Day activities will take place at the National Bank Stadium, where players, match officials, PCB representatives, and team owners will wear pink caps and ribbons to show support. The stumps and broadcast graphics will also feature a dedicated pink theme to amplify the message.
At 8pm PKT, members of the cricket fraternity are set to share messages on social media platform X using the hashtag #GoPink, with fans also encouraged to join the conversation and show their support.
Adding to the initiative, Pakistan women’s team captain Fatima Sana, along with Syeda Aroob Shah, Rameen Shamim and Muneeba Ali, will participate in pre-match warm-ups to further promote awareness.
PSL Chief Executive Officer Salman Naseer said the league takes pride in using its platform to highlight critical social issues. He added that Pink Day aims not only to educate the public but also to send a strong message of solidarity to patients, their families, and loved ones, while appreciating the role of the Pink Ribbon Hospital and the cricket community in supporting the cause.
