Pakistan’s NEC approves PKR 3.79 trillion development budget for FY26
Federal and provincial allocations finalized; growth targets set at 4.2% as government eyes economic stability

The National Economic Council (NEC), chaired by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, approved a PKR 3,795 billion development budget and set economic growth targets for the fiscal year 2026 during a meeting Wednesday, attended by chief ministers from all four provinces.
The approved development budget allocates PKR 1,000 billion for federal government projects, while provincial governments will receive substantial funds for infrastructure and economic initiatives. Punjab has been granted PKR 1,188 billion, Sindh PKR 887 billion, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa PKR 440 billion, and Balochistan PKR 280 billion in development spending.
The council also greenlit PKR 288 billion State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) investment in projects under Public-Private Partnerships (PPP), aiming to boost economic activity across various sectors.
Economic growth targets were set at 4.2% for FY26, with sector-specific goals including 4.5% growth for agriculture, 4.3% for industry, and 4% for the services sector. In external trade, exports were targeted at $35 billion, while imports were projected to reach $65 billion. Additionally, the government set a remittance target of $39 billion for the fiscal year.
