Pakistan's government reviewed export promotion schemes and incentive options for the upcoming federal budget on Saturday, focusing on measures to strengthen exports and support priority sectors.

The meeting was chaired by Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Cheema and attended by senior officials from the State Bank, the Federal Board of Revenue, and the finance and commerce ministries.

What export incentives is Pakistan considering for the federal budget?

The government is weighing performance-based rebates, incentives linked to incremental export growth, and reward mechanisms tied to export targets.

Officials stressed that export growth depends not only on tax relief but also on improved infrastructure, factors of production, trade facilitation, and ease of doing business. Proposals related to fiscal support, trade facilitation and sector-specific incentives were also reviewed.

Who attended the export incentives review meeting?

The meeting brought together Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani, State Bank Governor Jameel Ahmad, Finance Secretary Imdadullah Bosal, FBR Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial and Commerce Secretary Jawad Paul.

Economists Dr Ijaz Nabi and Stefan Dercon also participated and shared recommendations on export competitiveness and economic reforms. Their input is expected to inform policy proposals before the budget is finalized.

What framework did Ahad Cheema propose for export growth?

Cheema emphasised the need for a sustainable, performance-based export incentive framework designed to increase export volumes, encourage value addition and diversify export products.

Participants agreed that incentive schemes should be aligned with measurable outcomes to ensure transparency, efficiency and long-term economic benefits. Discussions also covered expanding the participation of small and medium-sized enterprises in international markets.

Officials said the proposed measures would be refined further in consultation with relevant stakeholders before the federal budget is finalized. The government reiterated its commitment to supporting exporters through transparent and forward-looking policy measures. Priority export sectors and broader competitiveness improvements remained central to the discussions.
