Pakistani, British top generals meet to bolster defense cooperation

The Chief of the General Staff of the British Army, Gen Sir Charles Roland Vincent Walker, met Pakistan’s Army Chief, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on Thursday, where the two military leaders discussed ways to strengthen bilateral defense cooperation.

According to Pakistan’s military media wing, the meeting covered a range of issues including matters of mutual interest, regional security dynamics, and initiatives to further enhance collaboration between the two armies.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continued coordination to promote peace and stability in the region.

The visiting UK army chief commended Pakistan’s armed forces for their achievements and sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, as well as their role in fostering regional peace and stability.

Earlier, upon his arrival at GHQ, Gen Walker laid a floral wreath at monument of martyrs to pay tribute to Pakistan’s fallen soldiers, followed by a guard of honor presented by a Pakistan Army contingent.

Gen Walker’s visit comes nearly two weeks after Field Marshal Munir’s trip to Egypt, where he met with the country’s Chief of Staff Lt Gen Ahmed Khalifa Fatehi and Defense Minister Gen Abdul Maged Saqar to discuss enhanced defense and security cooperation between Islamabad and Cairo.

The two commanders had previously met in February, during Field Marshal Munir’s five-day official visit to the United Kingdom, where he delivered a keynote address at the 7th Regional Stabilization Conference at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.

During that visit, the Pakistani army chief also held meetings with the UK’s then-Chief of Defense Staff Admiral Toney Radakin, National Security Adviser Jonathan Nicholas Powell, and Home Secretary Yvette Cooper to discuss shared security challenges and avenues for deeper bilateral collaboration.

Meanwhile, the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza, held meetings with the Sultan of Brunei Darussalam and other senior officials during an official visit to the country, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

The CJCSC and Bruneian officials discussed global and regional security developments and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening military-to-military ties and defense cooperation between Pakistan and Brunei.
