Pakistani security forces successfully repelled an attack on a Frontier Corps (FC) fort in the Tank district of northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province bordering Afghanistan, killing at least 10 militants, the military said on Thursday.

The attackers, armed with a suicide vehicle, attempted to breach the fort in the Jandola area of Tank, according to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

FC personnel identified the vehicle approaching and opened fire, triggering an explosion before it could reach its target. Security forces then engaged the assailants, neutralizing all of them.

A police control room official in Tank however told Nukta that a suicide bomber had rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the fort’s wall, causing a powerful explosion.

“The attack took place at around 4 p.m., injuring four civilians who were rushed to a nearby hospital,” the official said.

Security sources said a duty officer acted swiftly, shooting at the suicide vehicle and detonating it outside the fort.

“All ten attackers were eliminated,” a security official stated, adding that one soldier was martyred and two others were wounded.

The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the assault.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi commended the security forces for thwarting the attack.

“We take pride in the brave soldiers who foiled this assault,” he said, adding that those targeting civilians and the state were backed by anti-Pakistan elements.

The attack comes days after a similar assault in Bannu Cantonment, where 16 militants, including four suicide bombers, targeted security forces. That attack left 13 people dead and 32 injured.

Pakistan has witnessed a surge in militant violence, particularly in its northwestern regions, despite ongoing counterterrorism operations.
