Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is scheduled to arrive in Pakistan on Tuesday for an official visit, as the two neighbors seek to deepen cooperation amid shifting regional diplomacy and renewed engagement between Tehran and Western powers.
The visit is expected to focus on expanding bilateral ties in trade, energy, border security and regional connectivity, according to officials in Islamabad.
It comes as Tehran pursues wider diplomatic engagement following recent talks with Western powers. Pakistan has positioned itself as an active player in this broader regional outreach.
What preparations has Islamabad made for the visit?
Security preparations and ceremonial arrangements have been completed in the capital ahead of the high-level engagement. Islamabad's Red Zone has been decorated with the national flags of Pakistan and Iran.
The arrangements reflect the formal, state-level nature of Pezeshkian's trip.
Who will Pezeshkian meet in Pakistan?
During his stay, Pezeshkian is expected to meet Pakistan's top civil and military leadership. Discussions are set to cover regional developments as well as longstanding areas of cooperation between the two countries.
Officials said the two sides are also likely to review progress on existing economic and energy projects.
The two governments will also explore the possibility of new agreements and memorandums of understanding aimed at broadening bilateral cooperation.
How does this visit connect to US-Iran talks?
The visit comes amid intensified diplomatic activity in the wider region, including recent US-Iran engagement in Switzerland.
Mediators said both sides agreed on a 60-day roadmap toward a potential final deal under a broader ceasefire framework. Pakistan and Qatar, which have played a mediating role in the talks, described the discussions as taking place in a positive and constructive atmosphere, according to a joint statement.
The roadmap reportedly includes a high-level political oversight mechanism and working groups focused on nuclear issues, sanctions relief and monitoring arrangements.
It also includes measures to prevent escalation in sensitive maritime routes such as the Strait of Hormuz. Analysts say the timing of Pezeshkian's visit reflects Islamabad's continued effort to balance.
