Three young children have been found murdered inside a residential building in the Ichhra area of Lahore, a major city in eastern Pakistan, police and rescue officials said on Thursday.

According to police, the children’s father had briefly stepped out to a nearby pharmacy after locking the apartment in Shah Jamal’s Mashallah Plaza. On his return, he discovered the bodies of his three children inside the home.

Rescue 1122 officials said they received an emergency call reporting a throat-slitting incident at the location. Emergency teams were immediately dispatched and found the bodies of two girls and a boy upon arrival.

The victims were identified as five-year-old Momina Batool, four-year-old Momin Raza and 18-month-old Umme Habiba. Police said all three children had their throats slit with a sharp-edged weapon.

The bodies were shifted to the hospital police custody for legal and forensic examination.

Senior police officials, including the deputy inspector general (operations), took notice of the incident and directed teams to the scene. The senior superintendent of police (operations) and superintendent of police (Model Town) also visited the site, while the area was cordoned off and a search operation was launched.

Police said CCTV footage from the surrounding area has been obtained and is being reviewed as part of the investigation. Forensic teams are collecting evidence to determine the circumstances and motive behind the killings.

Officials said efforts are underway to identify and arrest those involved, adding that all available resources are being used to bring the perpetrators to justice.
