A leading UAE clinic has introduced a groundbreaking procedure for treating complex brain aneurysms, marking a regional first in stroke care, WAM reported.
The hospital recently performed its inaugural procedure using the Artisse Intrasaccular Flow Modulator, an innovative implant designed to safely seal wide-necked aneurysms and reduce the risk of stroke.
Designated by the Department of Health - Abu Dhabi as a Centre of Excellence for stroke, the clinic is the first in the Middle East and North Africa to adopt this cutting-edge technology.
The minimally invasive technique involves threading a catheter through a blood vessel to position a fine mesh device, which isolates the aneurysm and prevents rupture, offering a safer alternative to traditional surgery.
The first patient treated with the device achieved successful aneurysm closure within three months, highlighting the potential of this approach to improve outcomes and minimize surgical risks.
Fayeza Al Yafie, Executive Director of Healthcare Quality at the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, described the milestone as a demonstration of the emirate’s commitment to medical innovation and high-quality patient care.
Khalil Zahra, Staff Physician in Neurosurgery at the clinic, added that the new procedure significantly enhances treatment options for complex aneurysms while reducing the need for invasive operations.
Since launching the UAE’s first multi-organ transplant program in 2017, the clinic has become a leading referral center for advanced medical care. The introduction of the Artisse device further cements its position as a regional hub for neurological innovation and cutting-edge stroke management.
