The United Arab Emirates has expressed deep disappointment over the UN Security Council’s failure on Tuesday to adopt a resolution calling for a coordinated international response to Iran’s ongoing attacks and threats in the Gulf.

The draft resolution, which sought the immediate cessation of hostile actions against vessels and unimpeded access through the Strait of Hormuz, did not secure consensus.

“The Strait of Hormuz is a vital artery of global commerce and must remain open to all. No nation should hold the world economy hostage or push international trade to the brink of crisis,” the UAE said in a statement carried by WAM.

The UAE warned that the Security Council’s inaction does not reduce the urgency of the situation. It reaffirmed its commitment to international cooperation and thanked Bahrain for its leadership on the issue. “We will continue to work with partners to safeguard navigation, restore the flow of global commerce, and ensure regional stability,” the statement added.

The remarks come amid escalating tensions in the Gulf, as Iran’s confrontations with U.S.-aligned forces and attacks on shipping have raised fears of a broader conflict with significant economic consequences. Global oil markets have reacted sharply to disruptions in the region, highlighting the stakes of unresolved hostilities in the Strait of Hormuz.
